Smellin' the jasmine
Me.
Smellin’ the jasmine that finally started to bloom on my fence. I guess I shouldn’t say, finally – since it’s been through hell. Last year my landlord decided it was time to paint the fence, thus ripping it off said fence and while that was going on my dogs took full advantage of using it as some sort of pull toy. Once the painting was completed I sewed it back onto the fence and now it’s blooming. First Jasmine, next the huge Wisteria.
I recently learned that Jasmine is one of the most elusive scents in the fragrance world. You can find something called Jasmine almost anywhere, disguised as a perfume. But the true scent of Jasmine is rarely used. Something to do with the amount of chemicals naturally found in the flower – and when that is extracted and reproduced, the top note is usually lost.

Beautiful picture and commentary! I believe there may be a product idea hidden in here. Let’s talk about it later.
how lovely, I have never smelled jasmine or even seen the plant let alone a plant in bloom.
The scent of jasmine is just heavenly – brugmansia and jasmine are tied for my favorite flower fragrances. I love jasmine tea too, it’s wonderful. The jasmine you’re growing has really nice, large blooms. I have a sambac I overwinter indoors. The scent is wonderful and the blooms are pretty, but much smaller than yours.
You must live somewhere on the west coast, since you are smelling jasmine outside, which won’t grow outside in my area. You also commented on my post that you were going to buy foxgloves today. My local garden center has locked the doors and said they won’t even open again until March. Obviously they’ve astutely concluded that there is no money to be made selling gardeners plants when the snow is still on the ground. We don’t buy outdoor plants here in winter.
Yes, I’m in Half Moon Bay, CA… with an abundance of jasmine. We have open nurseries but not that lovely fall color or snow you guys get!
