Yes, a great success! I know I felt like a bad plant mom... but it's in a five gallon now with a great soil mix I blended:
mushroom compost
lava rock
nitro-shavings
and a little top soil

Wow that's bad.

The strange thing is that I was asking myself what kind of pot was shown in the second pic until I read the text and realized it was the root mass.

Hope the transplant was a success, doctor.

Yes, the broken pot look is pretty cool... but this was pure treason - not my intention. :)

thank you for the visit. Love your blog. On first glance I though you broke that pot on purpose. It seems the "in" thing here in South Africa to plant in a broken pot. Sometimes a nice effect. Look at that photo it has a "something else" look. I can see some branches growing sideways through the gap. no? YYess..

They grow great in pots! The link I gave is to Annies Annuals and they send nice quality plants... they have some cool dianthus.
Thanks for stopping by and commenting!

I can't grow dianthus in my heavy clay soil, maybe a pot is the answer - if I can persuade my dogs not to repeat what your did. Thanks for the idea :).
