I love this photograph.

I took this on a birthday extravaganza trip to Venice, Italy back in March of ‘06.

It was fabulous to come across in the cold, cobbled streets of Venice, and is still fabulous to see in a simple picture.  I love the thought of a modest balcony garden. A few pots, scattered. Careless.

If it were mine, I wouldn’t repaint the door or wash those balustrades if a gun was put to my head. Too romantic and thick with texture.

The balcony was down the street from here:

How can we really describe beauty, when even neglect is very obvious, the natural beauty still shines… ~bangchik

It shows you can make a garden in whatever space you have available. Venice is a gorgeous city – I love its hidden corners

It is a beautiful photo, and you are right about the texture and worn beauty. Love the colors, the faded pink and green.

  5. I think the neglect is an intrinsic part of the beauty. It reminds me of Mrs IG (but I won’t tell her that!!!)

ah venice, its stunning and amazing is the fact that people do care about their gardens even if it is a small balcony which is typical for a venice garden…i do love the patina of the building and the trailing plants.
