Treasures from Wine Country…

You really can’t go wrong with getting anything from Artifact Design & Salvage, out of Sonoma. And I’m really not just saying this to plug anyone – it’s just true. Every time I go shopping for one of my client’s while accidentally getting drunk/wine tasting in Sonoma, to find that perfect something for the garden – this is one of the meccas I travel to.

For instance, where else can you find a bunch of over sized clock/wheel thingies?

I can imagine these installed on a huge fence or to cover a boring retaining wall… nothing growing on them, but maybe a great  hedge line planted on either side?

Now mind you, everything looks a whole lot cooler when you have had a few glasses of wine in you, but either way I suggest going.

This is something you could post on your neighbors fence when they forget to weed! Although I haven’t mowed my lawn since 1942 so who am I kidding.

  2. OH! I soooooo want that penalty for neglect sign! I’m British, so the 2 pound penalty is perfect! What a great find. I could hang it on the gate to the vegetable gardens. They have some lovely artifacts…and no, that’s not just the wine talking! And the teak sculpture amidst the mustard is divine. I love this time of year in the Sonoma Valley, with the mustard blooming everywhere…it’s just perfect!

  3. Ohhh, you’re the second blog that raves about that place! I’d better go, soon if possible.

  4. Guess who is going to have a lovely big booth at the SF Flower & Garden Show? You got it, Artefact! They are also supplying goodies for Organic Mechanics’ show garden. It just keeps getting better and better, right??

  5. Nice! Can’t wait to see it!!!

  6. I love finding hidden treasures like that. How great to actually have a place to go to find priceless finds like these. BTW, I found your blog on Blotanical – Welcome!

  7. aloha,

i love this place and cornerstone in sonoma county is a real treasure…hopefully more garden friends can visit when they think of wine country, its a special place.

    thanks for sharing this.

  9. wow…cool stuff : )

  10. I love that photo of the sculptural piece of wood. Sometimes nature makes the most amazing pieces of art.

  11. That stuff is great. I’m increasingly drawn to rusted metal for the garden (I suppose it because it goes so well with all the old concrete I dig up). I wish there were some place like this near me, I’d love to weld them into something interesting.

  12. Ya, there really is so much to choose from… and it’s nice because you know it’s all unique and that know one else will have it in their garden.

  13. Accidentally getting drunk is all part of wine tasting! lol

There are some nearby vineyards I’ve wanted to visit since I’ve moved to NC, and I haven’t had the time :(

  14. They are the masters of display design! I always get inspired going there. Did they still have the stone greyhounds? I loved those…

  15. Oh man would my husband love to have those old wheels, etc. He buys that stuff on Ebay all the time and fills many of them with glass for his art projects. Wine or not, these are cool!

  16. Well, I put my money where my mouth is. I bought the penalty for neglect sign, and it should be here in a couple of days! I can’t wait to hang it on the arbor over the gate to the gardens. Thanks for bringing Artifact Design & Salvage to my attention. They were wonderful to deal with over the phone, and even gave me some background history on the sign. Now I’m going to have to see what other goodies show up in their catalog!

  17. I almost bought that this weekend! Damn!

Glad you got it though… send me a pic of where you put it in the garden so I can post it up here. Can’t wait to see!
