Dear Lemon Verbena:
Why are you acting like such an as$hole? Last year I potted you in that new terra cotta pot, in the sunniest spot in the garden. You kind of grew, but nothing to blog about. Then this year I have fertilized the shit out of you AND given you lots of water. Now you put out these miserable little shoots that, quite frankly, don’t do a whole lot for me.
Please advise, Jenn
Dear Bean:
I understand it’s tough out there in the garden world. Coming out of your shell, so to speak, can be a rough one. But I’ll kindly ask you to perk up and show a little respect – or you’re compost, pal.
Regards, Jenn
Dear Tree Dahlia:
First off, I want to thank you for your profusion of growth last year. You managed to kill the cerinthe, yarrow and sweet peas that were planted with you. Bravo. And I thought nothing of your massacre since I was assuming it would follow with some amazing blooms – but you know what happens when you ASSuME.

You’re too funny
You might be fertilizing the verbena a bit too much. Neglect it and I bet it will shape up-don’t want it in the compost piles with friends.
I will be sure to check out the People style mag for your interview. Cool deal!
I swear I’ve tried everything… and nothing with the verbena. Oy.
I agree with Tina. Isn’t Lemon Verbena a Mediterranean? The leaves look a tidge burned. However, I planted a couple myself and they don’t seem to be doing much, either. I thought I’d have to stand back with a machete and lemonade pitcher, guess now I just need a really long book. I think they might have it out for us!
Hope they all shape up.
The last time I fertilized was about 7 months ago!! And it’s in a pot that drains very well… Arg. The mystery remains.
Love it!
I’m definitely following!
Forget the Lemon Verbena and grow Lemon Grass…It’s responsive and smells delicious when you pull out the grassy bits to cook! Some plants are just too difficult to waste time on~I love this post, btw! gail
Love the post – I too will be reading the riot act to my garden later in the summer. Last year I wrote a number of Dear Calgary Weather… type posts.
Very good post.Really looking forward to read more. Really Cool.
