Where’s the party at?

Here is my interpretation of snails at a rave.

(Brought to you by us propagating succulents and grasses, and scraping off the clusters of asshole snails off each one gallon, plastic container. I can’t express how revolting it is to feel snail goo imbedded in your finger nails, before 10am. Ungodly.)

aw this is such a cute photo!!

Hate/detest them! (And don’t like them either!) For many years, I adored/prepared escargots (in shells, mushrooms, etc…) until I became a gardener and realized the similarly in the mollusk family … now, no thank you to either!

  4. Candy Suter says:

Wow that is a lot of snails! They are the bane of my gardening existence. Especially in the spring when things are really damp. They love to eat succulents! Arggggg!

I’ve never thought of snails as ravers, taking ecstasy, swinging glow sticks around, but you might be onto something. Their little tentacles do seem a bit rave-y. And they do seem to enjoy themselves excessively some nights in my garden.

  6. Nasty creatures! But, I bet they are having a rave in the garden. Here, it’s so dry this year we don’t have many, but if we have a wet year, look out.~~Dee

  7. Jenn says:

Right! I’d like to imagine they are jamming to Britney’s new album – the re-mix edition, of course.

  8. Laura says:

Oh that is so gross! I just found a couple on my succulents the other day and was totally grossed out. They are so nasty.

K, I’ll be the lone snail lover… I like escargot, and don’t mind snails, but of course I don’t have to deal with their destructiveness in the garden. I am really averse to killing them too.

  10. Nature-Drunk says:

Little gluttons they are! Is that two snails knockin’ boots in the third photo? Have the naughty buggers been dropping E?

  11. Rob says:

Dude… snail rave? Did you pour an entire container of salt in there?! Awesome. What are they swimming in?

  12. Jenn says:

ND – Right! Knockin’ boots in da club!

Rob – I can’t stand to actually kill them… we rounded them up and one of my kooky gardener friends took them for some ungodly reason. while we were moving and propagating, we were just tossing them into that bucket with water. after a while the water was thick with snail goo.

  13. That photo is awesome! What a great close-up!

  14. Linda says:

EEEOOWWW! I’m glad we don’t see snails here. With all the shade though, we do have plenty of slugs. As destructive as they can be, they’re so disgusting (to me) I can’t bring myself to touch them, let alone kill them. I really hate when I’m working gloveless and they get stuck on my hands. There are few things that gross me out more than having slugs stuck to my hand.

  15. Eco Mama says:

I thought, oh, you made snails looks so beautiful. Then I saw that last photo….

    Ya… bucket o’ slime!

  17. I just found your blog and I’m mesmerized. Love it. I like snails in the woods – not in my garden.

  18. fer says:

So many! well, at least you got them now, hopefully there won’t me as many left

  19. MAYBELLINE says:

After 10 am ain’t great either!
    GROSS

  20. Those slimy French bastards are not welcome in my California gardens!

I’ve got my own demented snail blog posting, which might make you smile:

  21. Jenn says:

    nice, i’ll check it out…

I’m just going to put this out there and say I think slugs are worse. At least you can pick the snails up by the shell. For the life of me I will never understand why people eat those things.
