I’m so hot for mint right now.
Maybe it’s because I’m filthy sick from a cold I’m guessing I got off a plane on the way back from Spain. The man sitting next to me was making love to (no joke) 6 Gin ‘n Tonicz only 3 hours into our flight. I get it… you have to get through an 11 hour flight somehow (my way was via The Kardashians and Big Love episodes), but he was a little over the top. It left me sitting in the middle with Gin breath all up in my face. Then subsequently, a cold.
So now I’m downing mint tea like there is no tomorrow – since by the looks of me – there won’t be! Luckily, I have quite an array of different types of mint ready for the plucking. My fav this year has been strawberry mint (Mentha spicata ‘Strawberry’) and banana mint (Mentha arvensis ‘Banana’). This year (the 3rd year I have grown them) they have really done well, even for being planting in jiffy pots. I lightly fertilize with a blend of organics once a year and they both stay pretty full and healthy. Unfortunately I don’t have a garden big enough to house my mint collection in the ground, but they are all pretty content in pots that I rotate around the yard to suit my horticultural and aesthetic whims.
I look forward to owning a farm one day that I can cover in mint madness.
Anyone have mint madness in their gardens?
