I’m not a huge fan of Japanese maples

I know, shoot me.

But they are just so obvious and easy and don’t do a whole lot for me. Although today at Roger Reynolds Nursery in Menlo Park, I came across their grove of maples and almost thought about buying one. The serrated leaves, cool canopy, moss covered 24″ box ready to be cracked open and planted … looked like it needed a home. I walked away, drawn to the espalier pears, but figured I should re-examine my maple hesistation.

Interview w/ Dustin @ HMB Nursery

Sunday, June 22nd, 2008

Me: “Dustin, thank you for taking the time for this incredibly important interview. I’m like Oprah, I’m like Oprah!”

Dustin: Kind of smiling.

Important Interview Questions:

Right now – Favorite Plant: “Saraccenia. Because it’s carnivorous! It’s a cool plant, going endangered and it’s important to protect them.”

Most used garden book? “Horticulture A-Z, definitely.”

Biggest pet peeve working here? “The people… not putting plants away where they found them. They have no respect for the organization of the nursery.”
